W. Joe Hoppe

W. Joe Hoppe grew up in the rust-belt town of Jackson, Michi- gan, and has degrees from Jackson Community College, The University of Michigan, and The University of Texas, where he received a James A. Michener Fellowship. Among many jobs, he’s worked as a janitor in a tool & die shop, service station attendant, newspaper reporter, social worker with homeless folks in Minne- apolis, and library clerk. He’s lived in Austin, Texas, since 1989 and taught English and Creative Writing while working at Austin Community College since 1996. His first full-length book of poetry, Galvanized, came out in 2007 under the Dalton Publishing imprimatur. W. Joe is the proud Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin’s 2011 Member of the Year.
